Soapberries are a small yellow-brown fruit around 1-2 cm in diameter; containing a black seed. The shells contain saponin which is the scientific name for soap.  Saponin dissolves in water to form suds and can dissolve fats and oils and help to lift grime. It is extremely and naturally hypo-allergenic so it is great for all skin types and ages

A few ( about 6 shells, approx 1/8th of an ounce)  in a mesh bag can replace your normal washing detergent and fabric softener. You can repeat the use of the shells on average of 3 washes. soapberries are fragrance free and gentle enough to wash your baby and his or her clothes. The shells can be added to your compost once their saponin levels have been depleted.  The higher the temperature, the more saponin is released.

 Soap berries shells can also be added to a sink of water to provide you with a totally biodegradable and natural dish washing detergent and it can also be used in dishwashers!  Using soapberries works out to be even cheaper than the cheapest dishwashing powder! Gentle enough to clean lace, jewelry, your pet and your car, floors and just about any surface!
